Room 960
960 Main St., in the G. Fox Building, Hartford
(860) 522-9960
www.room960.com

Keeping with the art deco design of the former G. Fox department store, Room 960 seamlessly channels the rich décor of the building into a modern, cutting-edge lounge complete with a large-scale flaming projection in the old store window on Main Street. Room 960 is inspired by party hotspots in New York, Miami and Ibiza, and its white modernist furniture, billowing curtains and warm wood tones make reference to The Delano in Miami Beach.

Music: Room 960 is all about the music — specifically House, Trance, Techno and anything therein. With the driving force of Bora Celik, a local promoter, 960 regularly books some of today’s hottest superstar DJs in Hartford. Gabriel & Dresden, Hernan Cattaneo, Sander Kleinenberg — to name a few — include 960 on their worldwide tours.

Online: DJ Kered puts together weekly mixes from 960 nights, available on iTunes through Boramusic.com

Dress to Impress: There’s no strict dress code, but it’s worth getting dolled up for an evening at 960. The upscale crowd travels from outer environs to Hartford to party and it’s the perfect place to try out that “one of a kind” club gear.

Noted Nights: House DJs include Kered who hosts “Dirty” Fridays and Mike Kiraly. Check the Web site for specialty events and DJs.

The Spigot Café
468 Prospect Ave., Hartford
(860) 238-7663

The Spigot is a dream neighborhood sports bar with high-def televisions, dart alleys and a stellar selection of bottled beers. It’s a no-nonsense place without the bells, whistles and drone of flashier sports bars. The atmosphere is relaxed and perfectly at pace with those looking for an honest night at the bar. The clientele is laidback and casual, and it’s popular with sports enthusiasts, UConn Law students and area regulars.

Décor: An overdose (depending upon your allegiance) of Yankees memorabilia and oversized covers from beloved baseball cards. Look for the personal souvenirs from owner Dave Taylor’s collection scattered about the walls.

Beer Here: A continual favorite for best bottled beer selection in the area, the Spigot allows customers to peruse their selections in large, clear refrigerators and bring them to the bar to open. There is also a changing menu of a dozen beers on tap.

Food: The Spigot offers a small selection of stadium snacks — hot dogs, popcorn and roasted nuts. Takeout menus are available and bartenders will help you place an order for delivery to the bar.

Cash Only: A new in-house ATM machine makes this a whole lot easier.

Music: An internet jukebox provides the tunes and don’t be afraid to turn it on during the game.
